Celebrate the energy, imagination, and unmistakable sound of American music with the IU Southeast Orchestra in a dynamic program continuing the America250 Celebration. Led by Dr. Molly K. Baugh, this concert shines a spotlight on music by American composers, bringing together bold orchestral color, powerful storytelling, and the spirit of discovery.
IU Southeast Professor Emerita Dr. Joanna Goldstein joins the orchestra as featured piano soloist for George Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, a dazzling fusion of jazz, classical, and American style. The program also features the world premiere of a commissioned work by IU Southeast Professor of Music Dr. Erich Stem, offering audiences the excitement of hearing a brand-new piece brought to life for the first time.
The IU Southeast Concert Choir and Community Chorus add their voices to the celebration with selections from Leonard Bernstein’s brilliant comic opera Candide. Full of wit, energy, and theatrical flair, this performance promises an uplifting afternoon of music that honors America’s past while celebrating the creativity of today.
